A lineman builds, maintains, and repairs the electrical power system. Their work covers everything from the point of generation at power plants to the customer’s meter. Power lines may be installed on overhead structures reaching heights of up to 300 feet or in underground vaults and trenches, in both rural and metropolitan areas.
Linemen often assemble and erect wood poles and metal towers while installing footings, hardware, conductors, and other related equipment. They also serve as first responders during emergencies, working in the field to assess damage and safely restore power by repairing power lines and electrical equipment.
